with Jessie Jewels Art

An art party right in your own home! You are invited to a live virtual art workshop where you get to see and interact with the instructor Jessie Jewels!

How it works:

Once registered a package with all the materials you will need will arrive at your doorstep prior to the workshop. A link to the live virtual event will be e-mailed to you prior to the event. Zoom meeting is free for participants and works on PC, Mac or cell phones.

During the live workshop Jessie will walk you through all the steps involved in creating a two beautiful fluid acrylic pours on 8” wood heart plaques. The finished pieces would make beautiful gifts for a loved one or for yourself. You will learn about pouring medium, fluid acrylic paints, creating “cells” and pouring technique.

No prior art experience is needed! The best part is if you get stuck or have any questions Jessie will be there to guide and help you!

Tuesday, June 16th

(ticket sales end June 10 or when sold out to allow time for shipping materials)

6:30pm-8pm

$52

*price includes all materials, shipping and live professional guidance

**NO refunds are allowed once the materials have shipped. If you cannot make the live event, Jessie will arrange for a recorded version to be sent to you.

You will be asked to select your paint colors once registered for the workshop.

You will need a space to perform the art project. Jessie suggests covering the surface with saran wrap, tin foil, wax paper, cardboard or some other surface covering that can get paint on it.

Jessie has always had a passion for the arts. She grew up in a household of artists and craftsmen. At a young age she started to take art classes in sculpting and ceramics. Enjoying the tactile experience of working with her hands she began working in jewelry making and beading. She created her first business, Jessie's Jewels, at the age of 12, where she sold jewelry to her friends, family and school teachers.

Her love of art and running her own business continued to develop into adulthood. She started to develop her voice as an artist and opened her business Jessie Jewels Art, dropping the apostrophe. Jessie is a member of Providence Artisans. Her work can be found in local galleries and shops, at the Hope Street Artisan's Market, Waterfire Arts Plaza, Scituate Arts Festival and other local art festivals. When Jessie is not working in her studio or teaching art workshops she can be found spinning her hula hoop (sometimes on fire) or spending time in nature.

Who else needs a pep talk right now? By Maria Prus

Who else needs a pep talk right now?

By Maria Prus, M Designs Studio

Is there anyone out there who has been struggling to get motivated over the last few weeks?

I know I personally needed some help to look beyond this stressful time and make time to be creative. So I dug out a book I purchased last year at Powell’s books on a trip to Portland, OR (doesn’t traveling again sound nice?)—“Creative Pep Talk: Inspiration from 50 Artists” by Andy J. Miller. Inside are pages of beautifully illustrated motivational quotes provided by the selected artists. Here are three lessons from the book that I am using to keep me going creatively during this difficult time.

1. “Turn a negative into a positive” - Bob Ewing (p.50)

Even during normal circumstances, it is easy to let setbacks and disappointments take control. Thinking about negatives as opportunities for growth and change is one way to try to make the most of a situation. Being stuck at home is something that can feel restricting but I have been impressed by the number of ways that people have thought to bring positivity to this situation. Start by scheduling a Zoom meetup with your friends or family, think about Konmari-ing your belongings or work on prepping that garden that you’ve always wanted to start.

2. “I make stuff because I get sad if I don’t” - Will Bryant (p.24)

This one really hits home for me. It is easy to go through the day doing tasks that “need to get done” but might not necessarily involve creativity. However, making things doesn’t have to be a big effort or a perfect finished piece. Take out a coloring book page, cut up some old magazines for a collage, even making dinner counts as a way to be proud of what you can do with your hands!

3. “Make work play” - Erin Jang (p.62)

Many of us are working from home right now. But what if we thought about the concept of “work” differently? What if work became an opportunity to experiment and try new things? If you can’t get to your studio space, maybe try using a different medium at home which could lead to a new direction for your practice. Even if you are not an artist, bringing a playful spirit to your work can bring a new perspective on tasks that you may have previously considered boring or routine.

Hopefully these words of wisdom are helpful to you as we all continue to cope with the changing world.

-Your favorite herbs

*Here are some easy to access ideas right at your fingertips...

Forage from Nature: Nettles, Dandelion leaf, Chickweed, Cleavers, White Pine needles

Find in your Spice Rack: Rosemary, Thyme, Lemon Grass, Ginger, Lemon Peel, Mint

Brew up any Bilo Herbs tea blend this way! It's our go-to method to extract all of the beneficial compounds, vitamins and minerals from our wellness-enhancing tea blends. Sip up to four cups a day of your favorite blend for maximum benefit. (We also always add local honey, because why not?!)

Don't have a Bilo Herbs tea blend? No problem! We're still fulfilling orders every week and in stock with all of our blends.

Also, this method works with any herbal leaf or flower you'd like to infuse. (For roots, seeds, and barks, simmering is best.)
